3/1/2013 15:00
The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation invites you, on Wednesday, 16 January 2013, at 7:30 pm to the opening of a photo exhibition by Sergey Yastrzhembskiy, entitled “impressions”. The exhibition will be inaugurated by Mr Yiannis Kypri, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Cyprus.
The exhibition is held under the auspices of H.E. Mr. Vyacheslav D. Shumskiy, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Cyprus." The entire event is sponsored by the law firm of Christodoulos G. Vassiliades & Co. LLC.
The exhibition of Sergey Yastrzhembskiy features 63 photographs from Africa and Europe, and also from Russia and Cyprus. The most prominent feature of his impressive photographs, which in fact are more reminiscent of paintings, is that they all depict the Earth but have been taken from a height of hundreds of meters above sea level. By observing the photographs, the viewer may compare countries and continents from above, as if flying over the depicted places. Unique combinations of patterns and colours make up the landscapes of the exhibition, which seem to be without a beginning or an end.
“Sergey Yastrzhembskiy is mostly interested in visual structure and subtractive composition, highlighting the differences between countries and continents by means of the colours’ texture and scale. Such differences are not determined only by natural capacities but also by the influence of human civilization on them. His Africa looks so brutal whilst, before it, Europe comes out graphic and more… impressionistic” notes the Director of Moscow’s House of Photography, Olga Sviblova.
Sergey Yastrzhembskiy was born in Moscow in 1953, and worked as a journalist and diplomat. He has been involved in photography for twenty years. His favourite subjects are ethno photography and aero impressionism (air shooting of the landscapes). Yastrzhembskiy’s art-works are exhibited in the Moscow House of Photography, in private collections in Russia, Belgium, Italy, France, Slovakia, China. His photos are periodically published in magazines such as Fotodelo, Tretyakovskaya Galerja, Ogonjok, Export, and in newspapers Izvestija, Kommersant, Komsomolskaya, Prava, Rossikaya Gazeta.
The same evening at 6:30 pm Sergey Yastrzhembskiy’s film “Africa: Blood and Beauty” will be shown in Russian with English subtitles (Duration 52 minutes)
The exhibition will run from January 16, 2013 until 28 February 2013. Visiting hours: Monday – Sunday 10:00 – 19:00 (except on bank holidays). For information, tel: 22128157
