Passengers at airports up 7.14% in October, 2024 a record year, Ministry says

Passenger traffic at Larnaca and Paphos airports increased by 7.14% in October 2024 compared to 2023, according to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, which states that according to forecasts 2024 will be a year of historical record for Larnaca and Paphos airports, exceeding 12 million passengers.

"Despite the adversities from the escalation of geopolitical tensions, the January-October period continues to show the largest passenger traffic, with an increase of 5.3% compared to the corresponding period of 2023," a Ministry press release said here on Wednesday.

According to the Ministry's data, passenger traffic at Larnaca airport in October exceeded last year's figures by 8.8%, and at Paphos airport last year's figures were exceeded by 3.2%.

The volume of passengers at Larnaca airport approached 1 million passengers (957,625), while at Paphos airport it reached 380,440 passengers, recording the highest passenger traffic during the month of October.

Main markets were the United Kingdom, Greece, Israel, Poland and Germany. Aircraft traffic increased by 10.54% compared to 2023, reaching 10,390 flights. Passenger traffic forecasts for 2024 have been revised upwards for the overall course of the year, the Ministry noted, adding that 2024 will be a new record year for Larnaca and Paphos airports, surpassing 12 million passengers.
