PASEXA welcomed the appointment of Mrs. Demetra Kalogirou, CSE Senior Officer, as Chairwoman of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission.
In its announcement, PASEXA said that Mr. Kalogirou is well aware of stock market issues and has rich experience in the sector of market and financial means.
“Her appointment was not based on political expediencies but on merit and this will boost SEC’s status”, it added.
“We expect that our cooperation with Mrs. Kalogirou on the protection of the investors and the development of the capital market in our country will be constructive”, the announcement said.
PASEXA urged the government to deal with the issue of the Deputy Chairwoman in relation to the complaints of former SEC Chairman, Giorgos Charalambous that during the academic year 2010-2011 she was a regular faculty member of the University of Piraeus, breaching the SEC Law.
Finally, PASEXA expects that the government will take all necessary measures to restore fully the legality and the status of the Commission.
