The regulations for the first casino resort in Cyprus are going to be on the agenda of the plenary of the House on March 10.

Once the regulations are approved the government will be able to announce the three shortlisted candidates to take over the casino`s operation in the context of the public tender process.

A joint meeting of the parliamentary committees of finance and energy focused on regulations.

In statements to the press, the chairman of the parliamentary committee of trade Zacharias Zachariou congratulated all relevant departments for their work in drafting the regulations` text. The regulations, he said, are quite strict and aim to protect citizens and people visiting the casino. He pointed out that the regulations follow international standards.

The final draft of the regulations is satisfactory said Angelos Votsis, who chaired the financial and budgetary affairs committee. He also noted that the operation of a casino is something new for Cyprus and that the parliament will stand ready to review matters as they come up.

According to the provisions of the draft regulations the Gaming Authority will conduct strict inspections of the casino operator. At the same time the operator and all employees of the casino should provide their fingerprints to the authority.

Advertising should be truthful and promote the casino – resort as an integrated development and not just for the games offered. Advertising should not encourage gambling, take advantage of people’s vulnerabilities, or claim to be a way out from professional or personal problems such as financial worries or loneliness and depression.
