The competent authorities are on hold in view of the latest developments after the Icelandic volcano eruption on Saturday.

Hermes Airports spokesman, Adamos Aspris, told StockWatch that the flight schedule of the International Airports of Cyprus is not affected so far and the authorities keep abreast with the developments in Britain mostly.

According to Mr. Aspris, the figures confirmed the estimates, since the ash cloud is now over Scotland. British Airways and KLM have already cancelled a number of flights to Glasgow and Edinburgh.

“Eurocontrol announced that 250 flights to and from the Scottish airports have been cancelled”, Mr. Aspris said.

“As for the next few hours, things are uncertain, although, the specialists ensured that the problem will not be as acute as last year”, he added.

“With regard to the flights to and from the Cypriot airports, there is no problem so far. There is one arrival and one departure for Glasgow today but the airline has not announced anything so far. Eyes focus on Great Britain”, he stressed.

Last year’s eruption had created enormous problems to the flight schedule of most European companies, affecting negatively the tourist arrivals for Cyprus too, which have recovered this year.
