The "Lagarde list" is in the final stage of being processed by the Tax Department, the President of the House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou said after a meeting he had on Wednesday with the Commissioner of Taxation Yiannis Tsangaris in his office in Parliament.
Tsangaris told Omirou that the objections filed by 88 persons which have already been examined are in the final stage of being processed. He also said that taxes worth €35 million have been imposed.
More than 100 companies (to be exact 116) included in the “Lagarde list” remain to be investigated, Omirou said, adding that Tsangaris assured him that the "Lagarde list" processing is in the final stage.
The House Speaker said no amount has been collected from the tax which has been imposed since the examination of the objections filed has not been completed yet.
Omirou noted that the processing of the "Lagarde list" by the House would not be useful at this stage since the data are not yet ready.
He also said that the Commissioner of Taxation confirmed that there are no active politicians in the list.
They also discussed the issue of the “Panama Papers”, with Tsangaris assuring Omirou that "with regard to Cypriots, natural or legal persons, involved in any way, the risk management Unit of the Tax Department has already undertaken the processing of the data contained in this catalogue of the “Panama Papers” in order to determine whether there are any tax or criminal offenses."
