According to CYSTAT data released on Wednesday, tourist arrivals in October recorded an increase of 2.6% to 278,897 compared to 271,980 in the corresponding month of 2003. For January-October 2004, tourist arrivals increased by 2.9% to 2,156,240 compared to 2,095,527 in the corresponding period of 2003.

However, Secretary of the Tourist Agents Association, Thasos Katsourides has expressed his concerns on this positive development, since tourist revenues are not expected to have similar repercussions. It is noted that for January-September 2004, tourist revenues dropped 3.2%. Speaking to StockWatch, Mr. Katsourides appeared optimistic for the prospects of the Cyprus tourist industry for 2005, after the positive messages from the World Travel Market in London.

October tourist arrivals from the UK, Germany and Greece showed an increase of 1.2%, 3.6% and 25% respectively, while tourist arrivals from Russia, Ireland and Switzerland dropped 17.7%, 9.8% and 8.8% respectively.
