The tourist product in the occupied territories is following a downward trend and the T/C regime is in constant effort for its recovery. According to CTO Tourism Manager, Lefkos Fylaktidis who attended the House Commerce Committee session, the T/C try to attract tourism via the Larnaca airport and have already proceeded to the construction of two big hotel units. “Tourist arrivals to the occupied north have dropped significantly and they hardly reach 160 thousand”, he said.

Commenting on CTO’s actions to prevent tourists from visiting the T/C areas, Mr. Fylaktides said that no tour operators abroad have the occupied territories in their programs. “We also must emphasize that most hotels in the north either belong to the G/C or are situated in G/C land”, he said.

The session was also attended by PASYXE Chairman, Haris Loizides, who said that the government must give incentives for the improvement of the hotel units in Cyprus. This practice is already adopted by the T/C.
