The benefits from the energy bridge of Cyprus – Greece – Israel will be many and the political aspect of the issue will be significant, CERA Chairman, Giorgos Siammas stated on Thursday.
Speaking at the Economist Summit in Athens, Mr. Siammas said that a possible future energy axis connecting the three countries will resolve technical issues and will reduce costs.
“The political aspect of the issue is significant. To achieve our targets, we need rational and long-term planning, the tariffs to be cost-orientated and the market model to be redesigned”, he said.
“We have to take advantage of the hydrocarbon exploitation simultaneously with our target for the reduction of CO2 emissions”, he said.
“We must learn from the mistakes and successes of other countries and to proceed with the development of a regulatory policy focusing on consumers”, he added.
“The challenges from the penetration of RES by 2020 are great”, he concluded.
