'No' to encouragement for closing of Eurocypria

Eurocypria pilots’ trade union, OIYK-SEK urged the government the House of Representatives to ignore the wrong encouragement of third parties that seek the closing of Eurocypria for political or business reasons.
According to the announcement, “three similar Airbus A320 aircrafts of 20 years old that Cyprus Airways had withdrawn from their fleet quite sometime ago and were forced to sell them for spare parts, the Cyprus Airways Management now asks to be leased by Eurocypria”.
“Although the Board of Directors of Eurocypria admitted on July 31, 2009 that the use of the specific aircrafts was costly due to their age, it asked by Eurocypia not to keep the existing fleet that comprises of aircrafts of more or less 6 years old and to leas its own old aircrafts that could not be sold”, it added.
“At the same time, Cyprus Airways demand by the government to reduce the fleet of Eurocypria and ignore the wrong encouragement of third parties that seek the closing of Eurocypria for political or business reasons”, it stressed.
“We urge the government and the House of Representatives to support Eurocypria’s effort. The Cypriot airline that even amid the economic crisis, it continues to offer too many to the island’s tourism and economy”, the announcement concluded.
