The widening of the Nicosia – Limassol highway will be delivered ten months earlier – by the end of the year and not by October 2012.
This is what Minister of Communications and Works, Efthimios Flourentzou stated and was confirmed by Manager of the Public Works Department, Alecos Michaelides, who explained that this will be feasible due to the incentive of €9 thousand a day from the date of the delivery until the initial agreement day, which will be granted to the construction company as a reward.
The Minister visited the Public Works Department offices today and was briefed on its activities, the projects that are in progress and those that are scheduled.
“I am sure that I will be supported in the further course for the proper management of the projects that are in progress and those that are either in the budgets or in the thoughts for a future development”, Mr. Flourentzou said after the meeting.
“The reward is of €9 thousand a day and we are talking about a big one. At the same time, we have to emphasize that the public sector saves much more money because the delays in the highway on a daily basis cause fuel and spare parts losses”, Mr. Michaelides said.
As for the scheduled projects, the Minister said that there will be a methodology study, which will contribute in having development projects. “It will be discussed with the Finance Ministry and I hope that we will convince them that those projects must be executed now with a methodology that will not burden the state budgets”, he concluded.
