Baker Tilly International Announces New Regional Chairman for Europe, Middle East & Africa

Eyal Horowitz, CEO and managing partner of Baker Tilly* in Israel, will serve as the next Europe, Middle East & Africa regional chairman of Baker Tilly International, effective 1 July 2011. He succeeds Ted Verkade who will step down after eight years in the position.

Commenting on his appointment, Horowitz said: "I am honoured to be given this opportunity. Europe, Middle East & Africa is the network's largest region in terms of coverage - 81 firms operating in 71 territories - and also the most diverse. I believe the region has a lot of untapped potential. Through effective communication and collaboration between member firms I am committed to driving cross-border business within the region, sharing expertise among firms, and further building the Baker Tilly brand."

Geoff Barnes, CEO and president, Baker Tilly International, said: "Our thanks go to Ted for his commitment and enthusiasm. During his tenure our focus was firmly on building representation across the region, ensuring we have the right firm in each of the region's key markets. Under Eyal's leadership, our focus is now on driving international business growth and developing our members' services and capabilities in the region, and ensuring we are recognised as the leading service provider in the middle market."

Ted Verkade has been regional chairman since 2003. Under his leadership the network has grown in the region from 30 member firms to more than 80, with combined annual revenues in the region growing from US$500m to US$1.13bn. Ted will remain a member of Baker Tilly International's International Board.

Ted Verkade Named Project Director

Ted Verkade has been appointed project director for Baker Tilly International, effective 1 July 2011.

Former chair of Baker Tilly International's EMEA Regional Advisory Council and partner in Baker Tilly Berk – Holland, a founding member of Baker Tilly International, Ted has been closely involved with the development of the network for many years. He has been a member of the network's International Board since 2002.

In his new role, Ted will be working on strategic planning and special projects, supporting the headquarters team in its efforts to enhance the international capability of its member firms, promote the Baker Tilly brand, work towards global consistency in the delivery of client services and identify market opportunities.

Commenting on his appointment Ted said: "I am delighted to accept this exciting new challenge. I look forward to working with the headquarters team as we continue to implement our strategy to be recognised as a global network of closely aligned, premier, independent accounting firms serving leading national and global organisations".

Ted will remain one of the managing directors of Baker Tilly Berk, Holland.
