The increase in the value added tax from 17% to 18% led to an increase in fuel prices by 1 cent, Chairman of Gas Station Owners Association, Stephanos Stephanou stated on Monday.
Mr. Stephanou said that the price of unleaded gasoline of 95 octanes set to 1.35 a liter now stands at 1.36.
As for the price of 98 octane petrol, Mr. Stephanou said that from 1.39 it increased to 1.40 and diesel from 1.41 today stands at 1.42.
Moreover, the price of heating oil today from 1.04 increased to 1.05 and kerosene from 1.11 rose to 1.12.
Mr. Stephanou added that the increases are purely attributable to the change in the VAT rate.
Asked whether further increases are expected, Mr. Stephanou said: “I can not say if we expect further increases. As a consumer, I see that prices in the international market are approximately stable”.
“Then, it is up to the companies and their new imports and the prices in the international market”, he concluded.
