“The Cyprus shipping must be supported by both the government and the European Union, especially in relation to its embargo by Turkey”, EVROKO President, Demetris Syllouris stated after his meeting with the Chairman and General Manager of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber on Tuesday.
According to the CNA, Mr. Syllouris said that Turkey’s stance is unjustifiable and the country must start to pay if Turkey doesn’t do what it has to do.
Mr. Syllouris also said that the meeting focused on other issues too and that his party will support the sector, asking nothing more but to lift the obstacles for its proper operation without financial cost.
General Manager of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, Thomas Kazakos said that the meeting with EVROKO falls within the framework of a series of contacts with all political parties in Cyprus so that they are informed on the latest developments about the island’s shipping in relation to the Turkish embargo in view of Turkey’s accession talks.
The Chamber also briefed about the latest developments in relation to tax issues concerning the shipping companies.
Specifically, the European Commission allowed it to impose capacity tax instead of corporate tax to companies that offer crew management services and technical ship management.
