House Communications Committee examined on Tuesday the change of the law in relation to the motorcycle license in an effort to tackle road accidents.
After the end of the session, AKEL MP, Andreas Fakontis said that the existing law allows all persons of 17 years old and over to acquire a learner’s license. The license is renewable every year with the payment of €8, without taking a test.
Mr. Fakontis requested the immediate change of the law and recommended the safeguard of a learner’s license at the age of 17 but the driver must take a test in order to acquire the proper license, which will no longer be renewable.
In the past ten years, 225 motorcyclists have lost their lives.
The proposal has been submitted by AQndreas Fakontis, Aristos Aristotelous and Klavdios Mavrohannas.
