Minister of Trade, Industry & Tourism Nicos Rolandis chaired a meeting with representatives of the CTO, PASYXE, STEK, ACTA, Cyprus Airways, the Civil Aviation Authority and other officials, in an effort to evaluate the situation on tourism. Matters discussed included the utilization of additional measures approved by the House in support of the tourist industry, bookings for the forthcoming summer season as well as the additional financial support of CYP 5.5 million requested by the House.
Speaking during the meeting Mr. Rolandis stated that concerning the CYP 5.5 million which the House did not approve and which related to various reductions in fees as approved by the Cabinet and the Trade, Industry & Tourism House Committee, this will have a negative effect on efforts to promote tourism to the country. According to Mr. Rolandis, reduced inflow of tourism will mean a significant reduction of income for Cyprus and if the numbers are not achieved this will have a negative effect on growth figures.
