The Board of Directors of Marfin Popular Bank approved on Monday the appointment of Michalis Sarris as new Chairman of the Group with effect from early 2012, replacing Constantinos Mylonas, who remains in the Board.
The appointment was a result of deliberations that were in progress in the past few weeks and were concluded in Limassol yesterday.
This is the fourth significant change in the administration of Marfin after the withdrawal of Andreas Vgenopoulos from his position as Non-Executive Chairman in early November.
Mr. Vgenopoulos’ withdrawal was followed by the resignation of Heracles Kounadis from his position as Country Manager of Greece and that of the CEO, Efthimios Bouloutas.
The Board also approved the appointment of Chris Pavlou as Board member. Mr. Pavlou was a member of the Board of Directors in the past.
Mr. Sarris was formerly a Board member of the Bank. In 2004, he retired from the World Bank and in 2005 he was appointed as Finance Minister in the government of Tassos Papadopoulos, a position held until 2008.
