The UN Envoy for Cyprus, Jane Holl Lute, returns to the island in three weeks to continue efforts for a resumption of the Cyprus talks.

In a Twitter post, President Anastasiades said Lute contacted him this evening and the two talked about the next steps in the Cyprus talks.

"I repeated my readiness to resume the negotiations", the President said.

He further added that Lute "reaffirmed the UN SG @antonioguterres` interest to find a solution" and that it was agreed that in "around three weeks, she will visit Cyprus to continue the effort".

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The last round of negotiations, in the summer of 2017, at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
