The acquisition of Hilton hotel by Marfin Popular Bank has increased the interest for the island’s hotel industry, PASYXE Chairman, Haris Loizides stated on Wednesday. Speaking to StockWatch, Mr. Loizides revealed that the Russians, the Americans and the Israelis have expressed their interest to PASYXE for the hotel units in Cyprus. “The interest concerns the acquisition or the long-term lease of the big 4 and 5 star hotels”, the Chairman said but avoided to proceed to further details.
Invited to comment why foreign investors wish to invest in the Cyprus hotel industry despite the huge problems in the sector, Mr. Loizides said that the foreign capital create new prospects. “Such investments are significant for the sector of tourism in a period that Cyprus faces a number of problems. We hope that this move will contribute to the recovery of tourism”, he concluded.
