The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Giorgos Lillikas, has undertaken the role of the mediator, in an effort to lift the labour dispute in the hotel industry with regard to the renewal of the union contract, expired on March 31, 2003.
The meeting is attended by the two hoteliers’ trade unions, as well as PEO and SEK (hotel employees’ trade unions).
On Tuesday morning, the House Commerce Committee appealed for an immediate solution of the labour dispute, which might affect negatively the hotel industry in an exceptionally difficult period.
It is noted that there is a dramatic decline in tourist reservations for summer, which according to the CTO have reached 15%. However, the hotel owners insist that the drop in tourist arrivals has reached 35%.
