According to CYSTAT data released on Tuesday, tourist arrivals in August 2008 fell 3.7% to 328,100 against 340,534 tourists in the corresponding month of 2007 (-12.434).
This decline is attributable to the British (-4.6%) and the German market (-19.0%). Specifically, the British tourist arrivals reached 178,257 compared to 186,761 in August 2007, while arrivals from Germany stood at 10,313 compared to 12,731 last August. Greek tourist arrivals dropped 5.9% to 15,188 from 16,134 last year.
On the other hand, Russian tourist arrivals soared 22.9% to 30,342 from 24,689 in August 2007. Similarly, Swedish arrivals recorded an increase of 6% to 17,892 against 16,885 last year.
In January – August 2008, tourist arrivals inched up 0.2% to 1,660,506 compared to 1,657,055 in the corresponding period of 2007.
