The impacts of the Chinese investment at the old airport area were examined by the Larnaca City Council at an extraordinary meeting held today.
The City Council was briefed in detail by Chairman of Hermes Airport, Iacovos Iacovou, in relation to 19-year agreement with the Chinese company, which intends to convert the old airport into a hub for the Chinese products to be transferred to the Middle East, Europe and Africa.
According to CyBC, the Mayor of Larnaca examined in depth all aspects of the development as well as the positive and negative impacts that might emerge and expressed his full support to the project, which is in line with his effort to make Larnaca a significant hub of service and energy.
According to the City Council announcement, “in such cases everyone should show a high sense of responsibility so as to complete the effort with success in a short time. There is also a need for timely and effective intervention of the government in ensuring the success and sustainability of the investment, which involves the lease of the site for 50 years”.
Finally, the Mayor called all political parties, organized groups and the government to reflect upon their responsibility to exploit this important opportunity for Cyprus.
