The House Legal Committee decided on Thursday to postpone the submission of the government bill concerning the amendment of legislation on civil debts before the Parliament due to some impediments with regard to the suspension of imprisonment.
The Legal Committee considered that the adoption of the provision for a suspension of imprisonment entails time-consuming procedures before the court and decided to establish a subcommittee to deal with any impediments arising, so that the bill will be set under approval next Thursday.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Cyprus Bar Association, Nicos Papaefstathiou, who agreed with the relevant provisions of the Government Bill, as well as the NE.O MP, Christos Clerides, who insisted that the Parliament must proceed to the abolition (not amendment) of the legislation and Cyprus must adopt the EU laws.
