The Justice Ministry expressed its satisfaction over the content of the European Commission's report on the Rule of Law in Cyprus for the year 2024, pointing out that it remains committed in completing the reforms of the judicial system in order to meet the public’s expectations.
In a statement the Ministry noted that the EC acknowledges the establishment of new courts, the establishment of new rules of civil procedure, as well as other ongoing reforms, such as the strengthening of alternative dispute resolution methods.
The Ministry said that the Commission describes as positive the developments regarding the introduction of remote hearings to facilitate the participation of children in judicial proceedings and the plans for online publication of court decisions.
The statement also said that in its report the Commission referred to the fast processing of accumulated pending cases in the courts, a project financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan of the European Union.
According to the report, based on figures from the Supreme Court Reform Division, the goals of the national recovery plan have already been met.
But the Ministry also pointed out that the report makes reference to the slow procedures as regard the digitization of justice and difficulties in recruiting new judges and support staff.
