According to CYSTAT data released on Thursday, tourist revenues in July 2008 fell 5% to €272.9 million compared to €287.3 million in the corresponding month of 2007. Tourist arrivals for the same month dropped 2.8% too.
Total spending per capita fell 2.3% to €796.7 against €815.1 in July 2007. The biggest spenders were the Russians with €1031.6 followed by the Belgians (€1025.2) and the Irish (€960.3).
Similarly, the average daily spending dropped to €75.9 from €78.8 last year. The average duration of stay stood at 10.5 days against 10.3 days in 2007.
In January – July 2008, tourist revenues declined 2.0% to €944.8 million compared to €963.7 million in the corresponding period of 2007. Arrivals for the same period rose 1.2%.
