The government continues to implement major water projects and promotes the adoption of new innovative technologies, Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou said, adding that the rational use of water was and is a strategic goal of key importance.
Ioannou was addressing an event of the Limassol Water Board marking 70+2 years of operation, which took place at the Limassol Water Museum and was under the aegis of Cyprus President, Nikos Christodoulides.
"Water is undoubtedly one of the most important factors for the social and economic development of a country" and noted that "for Cyprus, water shortage was one of the most long-standing challenges that the Water Boards were called on to deal with, challenges that are not just limited to the availability of water resources, but also to their quality," he noted.
Our country, he continued, is making the most of conventional and non-conventional sources, aiming to guarantee sufficient quantities of water for the needs of the population, agriculture and industry.
"The rational use of water has been and continues to be a strategic objective of key importance and is supported by a broader National Water Strategy, which has as its main pillar the sustainable development of water resources," the Interior Minister stressed.
