Industrial producer prices in Cyprus and the EU fell in September due to the downward trend in the price of energy products.
According to Eurostat data released on Wednesday, industrial producer prices in Cyprus fell 5.4% compared to the corresponding month of 2008, while in the euro area and the EU they reached 7.7% and 7.3% respectively.
Among Member States for which data are available, the largest falls in the total index were observed in the Netherlands (-13.4%), Lithuania (-12.1%) and Denmark (-11.3%), and the lowest in Romania (-0.1%), Hungary (-1.2%) and Slovenia (-1.6%). The only increase was registered in Malta (+0.7%).
In September 2009 compared with August 2009, the industrial producer price index1 fell by 0.4% in the euro area and by 0.7% in the EU27. In Cyprus, they recorded an increase of 0.3%.
