According to the latest data published by the statistical service, total imports (covering imports for home consumption and imports placed into bonded warehouses) totalled CYP 1.913,5 million as compared with CYP 1.714,1 million in January-September 2000. Total exports reached CYP 477,7 million compared to CYP 458,1 million in January-September 2000.

The trade deficit accounted for CYP 1.435,8 million compared to CYP 1.256,0 million.
Imports for home consumption were CYP 1.640,6 million during January-September 2001 and CYP 1.398,2 million in January-September 2000.

Intermediate inputs imported for home consumption valued at CYP 531,2 million or 32,4% followed by consumer goods with CYP 458,9 million or 28,0%, fuels and lubricants with CYP 204,1 million or 12,4%, capital goods with CYP 195,7 million or 11,9% and transport equipment with CYP 175,0 million or 10,7%.

Domestic exports including shipstores, valued at CYP 190,3 million as compared with CYP 184,2 million in January-September 2000, whilst re-exports including shipstores, were CYP 287,4 million compared to CYP 273,9 million in January-September 2000. Industrial products of domestic produce exported during January-September 2001 accounted for CYP 139,0 million or 77,3%. Exports of raw agricultural products in January-September 2001 valued at CYP 39,3 million.

During January-September 2001 the EU countries supplied Cyprus with goods valued at CYP 952,4 million or 49,8% and absorbed goods valued CYP 97,4 million or 54,2% of Cyprus domestic exports.
