After the end of the House Refugees Committee’s session, Chairman of the Committee, Aristophanes Georgiou stated the aid to the refugees will be increased.
“The government will adopt fully the program that it has submitted. It starts with the increase of the sum from £9,700 to £22,000 (+150%). In the next few days, the Council of Ministers will set the date that the sums will be granted to the refugees”, he noted.
Mr. Georgiou also stressed that the economic criteria on which the allocation of the state aids are based have changed.
“The government will allocate more plots to the refugees and the poor families to tackle expensiveness that hits the construction or purchase of homes”, he emphasized.
During the session, the MPs had the opportunity to hear the Attorney General’s opinion on the constitutionality of the 12 draft laws for compensations and provision of housing aid to refugees for the loss of their assets due to the Turkish invasion.
“The Committee will examine which of these proposals can be promoted”, Mr. Georgiou added.
