“I care for the environment”
The innovative booklet «I care for the environment» was presented at a press conference, held at the Hellenic Bank's main offices, in the presence of representatives of Ministry of Education and Culture.
Dr. Andreas Panayiotou, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hellenic Bank Group – was present at the press conference. His presence emphasizes the great importance given from the Board of Directors, in the strategic policy and action that the Bank undertakes for the protection of the environment.
In the publication, which takes the form of a comic, we see Hellenic Bank's two mascots - Flouris and Diamando - helping children to understand the importance of maintaining the balance of nature. Using simple language, children are informed and educated on the four key elements that contribute to preservation of this balance in the environment, namely, water, energy, waste and biodiversity. Some of the text is in the form of educational questions followed by answers including informative material on the above mentioned issues. There are also ecological messages, lessons and educational games further enhancing the publication.
The Hellenic Bank implements programmes and initiatives which strengthen and highlight its Corporate Social Responsibility every year. Within this context, it has formulated a multi-faceted environmental policy with activities geared towards environmental responsibility. In particular, regarding the contribution to creating environmental awareness among students, our Bank has been cooperating with CYMEPA, supporting and funding the Eco-Schools project, since 1998. As part of these efforts to strengthen environmental awareness among children, the Bank has published the comic book «I care for the environment», which has been approved by the Ministry of Education and Culture and will be distributed to the last three classes of public primary schools island-wide.
During the press conference, Head Stategic Development of the Hellenic Bank Group, Mr. Andreas Papadopoulos, gave a detailed presentation of the publication. Mr. Papadopoulos, among others, stated that the booklet «I care for the environment» was part of the Hellenic Bank's substantial contribution to the great effort being made to raise public awareness, especially among children, about the environment and the consequences of man's reckless and destructive actions.
In his speech, Mr Andreas Charalambous, representative of Minister of Education and Culture Dr Andreas Demetriou, praised the initiative of the Hellenic Bank and expressed gratitude for the Group's latest contribution to the efforts to develop eco-consciousness among today's young students, who will become tomorrow's environmentally-aware adults.
The issue «I care for the environment» will be distributed to the last three classes of public primary schools island-wide and with the approval of the Ministry of Education & Culture. It will also be available in all Hellenic Bank branches.
Finally, those who prefer to read it using technology can «leaf» through the manual «I care for the environment» on their computer, by accessing the Hellenic Bank website at www. hellenicbank.com.
