Chairman of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, Haris Thrasou handed in his resignation before the President of the Republic yesterday and it was accepted.

This is what Mr. Thrasou told the reporters today, within the framework of a press conference for the annual report of the Authority for 2011.

Mr. Thrasou explained that when he had accepted his appointment as EAC Chairman, her had informed President Christofias that he would remain at the helm of the Authority for three years only.

The three years expired in July 2011 when Cyprus suffered a catastrophic explosion at Mari. “Due to the serious conditions that prevailed at that time because of the catastrophic damage of Vassiliko power station, President Christofias had told him to extend his term as Chairman of EAC, which was accepted”.
