The green transition is a priority not only for Cyprus but for all EU countries, the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides said on Tuesday. He added that the aim of a Deputy Ministry of Environment, to be established, is to have a horizontal dimension.
In his remarks to journalists before addressing the General Assembly of the Cyprus Hotels Association, in Nicosia, and asked about the issue of environmental controls, the President of the Republic said that in his programme there is a provision for the establishment of a Deputy Ministry of Environment, one of the three Deputy Ministries envisaged in his pre-election programme, along with the Deputy Ministry of Immigration, which is already in progress, and the Deputy Ministry of Sports.
"You can understand that not everything can be done at once. The reason why the Deputy Ministry of Environment is needed is this horizontal dimension that it has. For example, we are talking about the recovery and resilience fund, one of the key objectives is how to achieve the green transition," he noted in this regard.
He added that this issue is a priority "not only for Cyprus, but for all EU member states" and noted that "the goal is to set up the Deputy Ministry which has a horizontal dimension, all ministries are dealing with this issue, even the Ministry of Foreign Affairs".
"When I was Foreign Minister, there was the issue of green diplomacy, so it is very high on our priorities, something we have to move proactively on before it is too late," President Christodoulides said.
