Greek shipowners, who still dominate the world industry while fending off challenges from China and Japan, are meeting it, spending about $5 billion in 2024 in acquiring 221 vessels to add to their fleets.

They also sold off ships for some $8 billion to cash in on high prices, according to preliminary data from the research department of the shipping brokerage firm Allied Shipbroking, said Kathimerini.
