Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis pays on Monday an official visit to Cyprus to discuss in Nicosia the efforts to resume the UN-led talks on the Cyprus problem in connection with Turkey’s EU relations.

On Sunday, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides stressed that there’s a common line, common approach as well as common goals with Greece, while stating that progress in EU-Turkish relations goes through Cypriot-Turkish and Greek-Turkish relations.

Discussions in Nicosia between the Greek PM and the Cypriot President will also cover energy and migration.

In the context of his visit, Greek PM will be received Monday morning at the Presidential Palace by President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides where the two will hold a tête-à-tête meeting which will be followed by extended talks during a working lunch.

Earlier, Mitsotakis will visit the military cemetery, Tymvos Makedonitissas and the Imprisoned Graves, the graves of Greek Cypriots hung by the British during the anti-colonial struggle in the mid 50s, in Nicosia.

Following talks with President Christodoulides, the Greek Prime Minister will meet with the President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, and then Archbishop of Cyprus Georgios.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
