Greece's unemployment rate fell to 8.9% in the second quarter, from 9.6% in the same period last year, the National Statistics Service said Tuesday.
In the first quarter, the unemployment rate was 9.9%.
First-time job-seekers represented 41% of the total number of unemployed, the NSS said.
Women were hit harder than men, with 13.6% out of work in the second quarter, compared with 5.7% of men.
In 2002, the jobless rate averaged 9.9%.
