Exempt from personal and corporate tonnage taxes on profits, Greece’s shipowners have kept their standing as the world’s biggest fleet in terms of Dead Weight Tonnage (dwt) with 16.9 percent of the total.
They have 4,999 ships carrying goods around the world – some 394,977,181 dwt – and have prospered through a 2010-18 economic and austerity crisis and even the COVID-19 pandemic that slowed sailing and commodities traffic.
