Amid reports from European media freedom groups indicating that Greece is obstructing the work of media outlets and journalists, Transparency International has declared the country to have the worst corruption record in the bloc.
According to the report, “Greece is currently facing a rule of law crisis that has been detrimental to the country’s progress in the CPI over the past decade.” This statement comes despite the fact that voters have shown little interest in such damning allegations, as evidenced by the easy re-election of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in June 2023.
