The plans for the introduction of a tourist police in Cyprus seem to run up against the government’s unwillingness. Police representatives told before the House Commerce Committee that the state would not put up the necessary capital for the introduction of a tourist police in Cyprus, a remark that aroused strong feelings to the Committee’s Chairman and DISY MP, Lefteris Christoforou.

“The government is unable to take a political decision that will contribute to the improvement of our tourist product. Unfortunately, the problems will continue to exist. Many European countries have introduced the institution, which has been “embraced” by the foreign visitors. We will insist until it becomes true”, Mr. Christoforou concluded.
