The Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister, Nicos Rolandis, said that the government will take additional measures to support the island's tourism industry in case of an American intervention in Iraq. On Thursday the Cabinet has approved the CTO budget for 2003 that concerns the island’s promotion abroad. It totals CYP 17.5 million.
The said budget is steadily higher than the usual that stood at CYP 13 million, but lower compared to 2002 (CYP 20 million) in the aftermath of September 11.
Mr. Rolandis noted that the government will extend the removal of the airport duty in March and will examine the possibility to extend it further in the future.
