The government observes closely the latest developments after the increase in the price of crude oil, Government Spokesman, Vasilis Palmas stated on Tuesday.

According to Mr. Palmas, the sharp increase in the price of crude cannot be controlled by the government. “The price is determined on the ‘offer and demand’ basis worldwide. The government keeps abreast with the developments. If it deems necessary that certain offsetting measures must be taken to ease the problem, it will do so”, he said.

The price of oil fell by $1 today, after yesterday’s record high of $93.80. At 7:43 am (Greek time), the price of crude for contracts in December fell by 98 cents to $92.82 per barrel. The price of Brent also fell by 59 cents to $89.73.
