In its report released recently, the House Environment Committee expressed its concerns on the government’s plan for the creation of golf courts.

Speaking at the AGM of the Chamber before the President of the Republic, ETEK Chairman, Themis Demetriou referred to improvisations on an issue related to the quality improvement of the island’s tourist product.

“ETEK believes that it is all about a wrong policy and no serious study has been carried out so far. The decision has been taken and ETEK has fulfilled its commitments and has stated its views. We’ll see if it is right or wrong”, Mr. Demetriou said.

Parliament

The plan on the golf courts was brought before the House on Thursday. Via its MP, DIKO tried to postpone the deliberations, but all other parties disagreed and the House Environment and Commerce Committees Chairmen read their reports.

Report

In its report, the House Environment Committee stated that no thorough study has been carried out and the incentives recommended in the plan are not satisfactory. It is noted that the decision of the Council of Ministers has not been announced yet, which has aroused strong feelings to the members of the Committee.

According to StockWatch sources, DISY and Ecologists are expected to vote against the plan. “If the government’s plan on the golf courts is approved, then it will be the most scandalous proposal of an EU member state”, DISY said.
