Government websites, that were affected on Tuesday due to a leak in the basement where Government servers are located, are now up and running, Cyprus’ Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Philippos Hadjizacharia, said on Wednesday.
In his statements after a meeting of the Council of Ministers, Hadjizacharia said the damage was restored and now the government websites and e-mail were up and running, except the Land Registry Portal. No data was lost, he said.
He also said that in order to prevent similar incidents in the future, he has informed the Council of Ministers of his decision to move the servers, which provide internet access for the government websites, as quickly as possible. For this purpose, consultations are underway with the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority, for their transfer to the Organisation’s facilities, he said.
Hadjizacharia also said he has ordered a probe into what steps were taken as regards a 2022 decision by the previous Government for the establishment of an International Data Centre. He said establishing such a centre was a massive undertaking and that more information on this would be announced in due time.
