The government undertakes its responsibility regarding the problem with the government servers, despite the fact that it is only one and a half month in office, President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides said Wednesday. He underlined that what's important is that such things do not occur again.
The government servers are operating again following a water leak at a basement next to the room where they are located at the Ministry of Finance.
In statements, on the sidelines of a visit he paid to a military camp in Nicosia, he said "we are the present government, the responsibility is ours", adding that " the responsibility towards the Cypriot people either for this specific issue or for anything else is ours. I will not hide behind decisions, that others are to blame, etc."
He also said that he asked to be informed regarding the transfer of data to the Cyprus Telecommunication Authority CYTA, so that they are secured and such incidents never happen again.
Invited to say if there will be accountability, the President said "we will see about that" adding that the most important is that such things do not occur again.
Meanwhile, the President said that he has given instructions to upgrade all systems to address cyber attacks and said that a meeting on the issue had already taken place but was not made public.
"Instructions were given by myself during the previous Cabinet meeting to upgrade all systems," he said.
He explained that in the first stage there will be an upgrade to protect the systems especially those used by the Public Service, and specifically the crucial services and to know about any attempts to interfere in the state's security. Then, he added, there will be an upgrade of the system through 13 specific actions that were approved by the Council of Ministers.
