The Government is monitoring the situation in the Middle East, Cyprus’ Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeades, told CNA on Monday noting that everyone was standing by.
Replying to a question about the flights connecting Cyprus with Israel, the Minister said that Cyprus’ air connectivity with Israel is maintained. Some airlines have chosen to temporarily stop their flights to Tel Aviv, but there are also companies that continue their flights normally, he added.
“The Government is monitoring the situation as it evolves in the region”, Vafeades said, noting that everyone was alert, and that, depending on developments, members of the public would be informed.
Meantime, according to information from Hermes Airports - the company running the Larnaca and Paphos airports - obtained by CNA, cancellations of scheduled flights to Tel Aviv are balanced by additional flights of companies that continue their flights there.
So far, two European airlines, Aegean and Wizz Air, have temporarily suspended their flights from Larnaca to Tel Aviv until August 11.
The rest of the airlines, both the Israeli ones and those based in Cyprus that fly to Tel Aviv, have some cancellations in their scheduled flights, however, the flight schedule is balanced with some additional flights of other companies, CNA has learnt.
As regards flights to Beirut, they do not seem to be affected by the situation in the region at the moment.
The same sources said that Hermes Airports was monitoring the situation.
