Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis hailed a bill passed yesterday by the Parliament, which reduces fuel duty by eight cent per litre. This new measure will cost the government around 26 million euro.
Speaking during the weekly briefing of the press Letymbiotis recalled that this measure is part of the package of 17 measures with a total cost of 196 million euro approved by the Cabinet with the aim to support the Cyprus households.
The Spokesperson said that the measure, implemented today, will run through March 31, 2024.
He said that checks were conducted by the consumers service and showed that gas stations have reduced their prices to an absolute extent after the reduction of the tax.
Letymbiotis said that the checks will continue and the consumers protection service will monitor the situation. He said that the government wants to find permanent and long term solutions not based on temporary benefit policies.
