George Perdikis was elected on Sunday for the second time as President of the Green Party of Cyprus (The Movement of Ecologists – Citizens' Cooperation) during the Electoral and Constitutional Conference of the party that took place in Nicosia.
Perdikis beat challenger Efi Xanthou, winning a total of 204 votes to Xanthou’s 92. He will remain as leader of the party until February 2025, when the current term of his predecessor Charalambos Theopemptou was due to end. Perdikis also led the party between 2014 and 2020.
After the announcement of the election results, Perdikis thanked Xanthou and invited her to help him in the difficult task of unifying the party.
"We will move forward in the coming months to build the unity, cohesion, and independence of the Party," said Perdikis.
At the same time, he appealed to the members of the party urging them to contact him for any issues they face that have to do with the party.
On her part, in statements to journalists, Xanthou wished Perdikis good luck, noting that he has set his goals ahead. She added that Perdikis will not have to face an opposition within the party from her, saying that she will continue to be a member of the party's Central Committee.
