The small generators from Israel that will boost the energy production system will be delivered tonight, Commerce Minister, Antonis Paschalides stated today.
At the same time, the preparatory works by EAC’s specialists and technicians, who in cooperation with the Israelis will install the generators, are in progress.
According to Mr. Paschalides, certain technicians from Greece are already in the Vassiliko power plan while the disconnection of generators from Greece and their transfer to Cyprus has already started.
“The Commerce Ministry is in constant contact with the Vice President of the Greek government, the Energy Minister and the Greek Ambassador to Cyprus.
“Also, we will contact the Energy Commissioner of the European Union, while the deliberations with France and Germany, who will offer generators too, are in progress”, he noted.
“Today, I have signed a decree which allows RAE and EAC to tale all necessary actions so as to secure additional generators from the private sector”, the Minister added.
On the question whether power cuts will stop with the delivery of the generators, Mr. Paschalides said that the government’s aim is to minimize them but it is not easy to replace the energy production of Vassiliko in a few days or weeks.
“The plant produced 53%-55% of the energy”, he added.
“The government does its best to reduce the outages, such as the management of the load in order to service important sectors such as tourism”, he said.
Finally, the Minister urged the consumers to contact the Commerce Ministry if they ascertain speculation when buying generators.
