The price of fuel has dropped significantly in the past few days. After the cut in the price of diesel last Friday, Hellenic Petroleum and Petrolina decided cut the price of oil 95, 98 and 100 octanes by 2 cents per litre.
However, the highest drop in the past two years concerns the price of gas, which is sold €0.40 cheaper from Monday. Hellenic Petroleum supports that the price cuts are attributable to the lower cost of the new load and not to any other intervention.
Commerce Ministry Energy Manager, Solon Kasinis, told ANT1 last night that the oil companies should have cut prices earlier. “I believe that oil prices must be cut as well. The international price of fuel has dropped from $150 to $156 per ton”, he said.
Mr. Kasinis explained that the law allows the Commerce Minister to set a ceiling in the price of fuel for 45 days. “The Commerce Minister intends to set a ceiling for the period of 45 days. We will continue to observe the prices and inform the citizens accordingly”, Mr. Kasinis said.
According to sources, the Advisory Committee of Price Watch will hold a new meeting after the Minister’s return from Berlin to examine the new costing study on the basis of the new loads ordered by the companies.
