According to the latest figures published by Cystat, the main developments in Cyprus foreign trade during 2001 as compared with 2000 were:

(a) Total imports (covering imports for home consumption and imports placed into bonded warehouses) totalled £2.528,7 million as compared with £2.401,9 million in 2000. Total exports valued at £628,0 million compared to £591,9 million in 2000. The trade deficit accounted for £1.900,7 million compared to £1.810,1 million in 2000.

(b) Imports for home consumption in 2001 were £2.176,8 million compared to £1.968,7million in 2000. Intermediate inputs imported for home consumption valued at £710,3 million or 32,6%, followed by consumer goods with £617,7 million or 28,4%, fuels and lubricants with £266,1 million or 12,2%, capital goods with £258,3 million or 11,9% and transport equipment with £226,6 million or 10,4%.

(c) Domestic exports including shipstores, were £247,0 million as compared with £240,8 million in 2000 and re-exports, including shipstores, £381,0 million compared to £351,1 million in 2000. Industrial products of domestic produce exported in 2001 accounted for £188,2 million or 80,4%. Exports of raw agricultural products in 2001 valued at £43,8 million.

(d) During 2001 the EU countries supplied Cyprus with goods valued at £1.284,6 million or 50,8% and absorbed goods valued at £122,3 million or 52,3% of Cyprus domestic exports excluding shipstores.
