FM:Relations with Egypt are of strategic importance

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Constantinos Kombos held a meeting on Thursday in Cairo with new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, during which he stressed the strategic importance of the Cyprus-Egypt relations. The two Ministers also talked about the Middle East and Kombos referred to the need to avoid further escalation and destabilisation in the region.

According to a Foreign Affairs Ministry press release, Kombos had a tete a tete meeting with the new Foreign Minister of Egypt, followed by extended consultations with the participation of delegations from the two countries.

Discussions focused on the bilateral relations and the prospects of further deepening them in various areas of cooperation. They also discussed EU - Egypt relations, energy issues, as well as the situation in the Middle East.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the strategic importance of the Cyprus-Egypt relations, underlining Nicosia's commitment to further strengthen ties with Cairo.

Referring to the developments in the Middle East, Kombos talked about Egypt's leading role as a pillar of stability and security and stressed the need to avoid further escalation and destabilisation in the region.
